Republican National Committee (RNC) chairwoman Ronna McDaniel says the RNC will not be able to pay former President Donald Trump’s legal bills if he runs for the White House in 2024.
“We can’t pay a legal bill for an announced candidate,” McDaniel told anchor Dana Bash in an Oct. 6 interview on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
The RNC chair pointed to New York Attorney General Letitia James’s lawsuit against Trump, saying, “Our executive committee elected our former president as a political investigation, and the fact that out.”
Late last year, the RNC made two payments totaling $121,670 to the law firm of Ronald Fischetti, a former defense attorney hired to represent Trump in connection with the investigations of James and Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr.
When asked about those bills, McDaniel said “they stemmed from the Letitia James lawsuit that started when [Trump] a president.”
“But we can’t make a donation to any candidate at this time. He’s the former president who’s being attacked from all angles and lawsuits, and he’s had more growth under the RNC than we have. spent on these bills,” he added.
In early 2021, the RNC refused to return the primary candidates for the 2024 presidency, even though former President Donald Trump chose to run again.
“The team should be neutral. I’m not telling anyone to run or not to run in 2024,” McDaniel said in an interview with The Associated Press. “For those candidates who are going forward. What I really want to see him do is help us win a majority in 2022.
The former president has yet to make an official statement about a 2024 presidential bid, but he has repeatedly ruled out the possibility that he might run. At the Nov. 3 rally in Iowa, Trump gave another hint, saying he would “absolutely, absolutely, do it again.”
When Bash asked if Trump announced his run, McDaniel said he didn’t know.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do for Thanksgiving right now, I’ll have to think about 2024,” he replied.
Lawsuits against Trump
On September 21, James filed his civil suit against Trump, The Trump Organization, Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, and Trump’s business associates for alleged fraud, saying that the value of Trump’s assets.

The organization’s CFO Allen Weisselberg pleaded guilty in August to charges of tax fraud.
Weisselberg’s lawyers said he was punished by the Democrat district attorney’s office because he would not make statements that would harm Trump.
