Mobile internet service will be suspended in many districts of Assam on Sunday as the state government will conduct written examination for Class 3 posts in various departments. The internet will be blocked to ensure free and fair testing.

Local authorities have also issued prohibition orders under Section 144, which prohibits the gathering of four or more people in the area, to be taken with caution.

The Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, also reviewed the preparations for Saturday’s exam.

On August 21 also, mobile internet services were suspended in 25 districts of Assam when the state conducted examinations for class IV posts. It was to ensure that the candidate does not fall for fraud with the help of the internet.

The state will conduct the final phase of examinations for class IV posts on September 11. So far, no internet order suspension has been issued for that day.

The Guwahati High Court refused to stay the mobile internet suspension order on a writ petition against the order. The authorities have also issued orders under Article 144 prohibiting the gathering of people, except candidates, clerics and officials within 100 meters of the examination centers.

The Prime Minister held an online meeting with government officials to discuss the preparation of the exam. An official release informed that he has given strict instructions to ensure that no one goes through the examination unfairly. He asked the authorities to ensure the smooth completion of the examination as it was held on August 21.

Sarma also asked the officials to ensure the traffic management in their areas before and after the examination and ensure that no candidate faces any problem in reaching the center. The minister was briefed on the arrangements for the meeting by DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta, general secretary Niraj Verma, and other officials.

Himanta Biswa Sarma confirmed that the government machines will work efficiently if the government positions are filled by people who are selected for their work. He also added that it will be important to make Assam one of the most advanced and progressive states in the country.

The Higher Education Board of Assam (SEBA) is conducting examinations for around 30,000 posts of classes III and IV. The board expects more than 14.30 lakh candidates to appear in the exams.

Section 144 of the CrPC has also been imposed within a 100-metre radius of the SEBA office until the board receives, deposits and examines the candidate’s answer sheets.
