GUWAHATI: An important round of ministerial-level talks between the North-Eastern states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh was held in Guwahati on Thursday (November 10).
While the Assam delegation was led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Pema Khandu headed the team from the border region.
The meeting took place at the guest house in Koinadhora district of Guwahati, Assam.
They discussed the progress made so far by the regional committees jointly led by the ministers of the two regional governments.
“We discussed the progress made by the regional committees jointly led by ministers from the two governments, and other issues,” said Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Also discussed were the points of incompatibility, which will be analyzed in the next discussions.
“I am sure that the two governments will soon reach an agreement that will protect the sentiments and wishes of all,” added the Assam CM.
The meeting held on Thursday (November 10) between the chief ministers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh is a “follow-up to the Namsai announcement”.
Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu called the meeting with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma “a watershed moment in our collective resolve to deal with the current issues peacefully”.
The Chief Ministers of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh Himanta Biswa Sarma and Pema Khandu respectively, on July 15, signed the ‘historic’ Namsai Declaration.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and his Arunachal Pradesh counterpart Pema Khandu signed the Namsai Declaration to resolve the border dispute between the two states.
According to the Namsai Declaration, the state governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh agreed to reduce the number of disputed villages from 126 to 86.
