A journalist in Assam’s Cachar district, a contributor to the Hindustan Times, said on Sunday that he had beaten up one of the security guards at a government hospital on Saturday night.

The reporter named Biswa Kalyan Purkayastha said that the accident happened at Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) when he went to deliver food to his sister-in-law who gave birth on November 11 and is being treated after pregnancy. issues.

“At around 11:20 pm on Saturday, I went to SMCH where a few men in uniform were mistreating people. When I asked them to behave properly, one of them started hitting me with a stick,” said Purkayastha.

He said he was seriously injured in the attack and filed a complaint at Silchar Sadar Police Station on Sunday.

Cachar Inspector General of Police Numal Mahatta, who met Purkayastha at the hospital on Saturday, said: “We have instructions from the chief minister to provide adequate security to journalists. We are taking proper steps so that such incidents do not recur.”

Police said the accused housekeeper, S Deb, has been suspended and detained for questioning. “We are investigating the matter and appropriate action will be taken against him,” said an official, requesting anonymity.
