RALEIGH, NC (WRAL) – The suspect in October’s mass shooting in Raleigh has been transferred from WakeMed to a juvenile jail, Raleigh police told WRAL.

Austin Thompson was taken from WakeMed to the Wake County Juvenile Jail on Thursday, WRAL reports. Another source says Thompson has been transferred back to a juvenile detention center with medical facilities outside the Triangle.

A 15-year-old boy was hospitalized on October 13 with serious injuries, including a gunshot wound to the head. WRAL says Thompson has been under 24-hour guard since that time.

Wake County District Attorney Lorraine Freeman said Thompson will be charged as an adult if he recovers enough to stand trial, WRAL reports.

Freeman told WRAL News, “There will be a repeated review of his secure custody status.”

A Raleigh news source says the case and his custody will remain in the juvenile justice system until Thompson has a probable cause hearing.

“We will proceed with a probable cause hearing and then request that they be transferred to adult court or superior court for trial as adults,” Freeman told WRAL.
