The Assam government has announced to cancel 8,000 vacancies of school teachers under the primary education department as a large number of contract teachers are already working under the Sarba Siksha Abhiyan (SSA).

Assam Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu said in a social media post that the Assam government has decided in 2020 to provide regular salary, along with all other benefits, including service up to 60 years. , about 11206 LP/UP teachers working under SSA.

“In order to maintain rationality against the imminent regulation, the government has decided to vacate 8000 sanctioned posts of regular teachers to avoid duplication and fiscal neutrality. pension of contractual teachers, the Government has considered it prudent to abolish fiscal discipline. The government can create positions as and when required due to the increase in enrollment in the future”.

Dr. Bijoya Choudhury, Secretary of the Government of Assam in an order said, “I have been directed to submit the government’s approval to the Department of School Education to cancel 8000 (Eight thousand) leave of the post of regular teacher (4285 lower secondary posts) .Primary Schools and 3715 posts in Upper Primary Schools) under the Directorate of Primary Education, Assam as per the annexed list & kept vacant to maintain financial neutrality regarding payment of extra service benefits to the State Pool Teachers. under SSA, Assam as per Cabinet Resolution in meeting held on 26.05.2020.This is in line with Finance (EC-11) Department vide U/O No. 294/2022 dated 19/09/2022 and Finance view (SIU) of the Department vide U/O No. FSI.344/2022 dated 16/09/2022”.
