Marion, no. (KFVS) – A high school student has been arrested in connection with a fatal Carbondale shooting.
According to Marion Police, a 15-year-old male was arrested at Marion High School on Monday, Oct. 31, on a warrant for unlawful use of a weapon.
Marion Police say it is in connection with a shooting that happened early Sunday morning, Oct. 23, on West College Street in Carbondale. A Cairo man is wanted for first-degree murder after a man died of his injuries.
They say an officer recognized the student and knew there was an active warrant for his arrest. He approached the student and asked him to follow him to his office, which the student refused.
The officer tried several times to get the student to voluntarily go to the office; However, they say the student continued to refuse and began walking away from the officer.
The officer attempted to take the student into custody, but he began “actively resisting the officer.”
According to police, school monitors tried to help the officer, but other students intervened and “put their hands” on the monitors.
Carbondale Police say the 15-year-old, who was being held at a juvenile detention center, was taken to the Jackson County Jail.
