JENNINGS, LA (KPLC) – A Jennings man has been arrested after a shooting and high-speed chase on Hwy 29, the Jennings Police Department says.

Police Chief Danny Semmes says officers received a call around 3 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 10, that a man had been shot on Hww 29 south of Plaquemin St.

When officers arrived, they found a victim who had been shot at least twice in the back and began investigating the incident as road rage or a drive-by shooting. Officers and responding Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies say several bullet casings were found around the victim, who was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and then to a trauma center in Lafayette.

As the victim was loaded into the ambulance, they told officers to look for an SUV and gave a partial description of the license plate numbers.

Officers began searching the area for an SUV and when the officer turned on the lights, they found a man inside who fled. Officers began a pursuit of the vehicle in what became a high-speed chase on Hwy 102 at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

The pursuit ended when the suspect missed a turn and broke a piece of farm equipment.

The suspect, Wayne Anthony Wible, 30, was taken into custody and the vehicle was towed to the Jennings Police Department. District Judge Steve Gunnell immediately issued a search warrant for the vehicle, where officials said they found a handgun and casings matching those found at the scene of the shooting.

After further investigation, Wible was arrested and booked into the parish jail for attempted first degree murder and aggravated fleeing an officer.

At last word, the victim was listed in critical but stable condition.
