Surrey, BC – BC’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in Campbell River.

On June 13, 2022 at 1:45 a.m., police responded to a report of a possible hostage-taking homicide at the marina, according to information from the RCMP. Officials, including emergency response team members, attended the marina and confirmed there were no hostages.

Police reportedly spoke with the man who called police first and was said to be in possession of a weapon. Shots were fired and the man died on the spot.

The IIO was notified shortly after the incident and IIO investigators were deployed to Campbell River.
