In a press release, Google said it will collaborate with the Assam government’s Skills, Employment and Enterprise Department (SEED) to strengthen its school digitization efforts through the use of digital teaching aids and learning materials, while spreading awareness about online security.

Tech giant Google on Monday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Assam government to support and accelerate digital growth and development in the state.

In a press release, Google said it will collaborate with the Assam government’s Skills, Employment and Enterprise Department (SEED) to strengthen its school digitization efforts through the use of digital teaching aids and learning materials, while spreading awareness about online security.

Google also said that it will also extend scholarships under ‘Google Work Certificates’ to the youth of Assam in collaboration with Assam Skill Development Mission (ASDM).

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa said that these programs will go a long way in empowering Assam’s children and equipping its youth with skills and wide employment opportunities.

“Digital-led technology and governance is central to our vision of transforming Assam and making its economy one of the drivers of the country’s growth,” Biswa said.

According to the terms of the MoU, Google will assist the government in the following areas:

  • Strengthening public schools in digital education
  • Offering Google Skill Certificates for youth scholarships
  • Promoting digital citizenship and online safety in all schools through the ‘Be Internet Awesome’ program
  • Sanjay Gupta, Country Head & Vice President of Google India, said the MoU is aimed at, among other things, modernizing the education of the next generation.

    “We look forward to working together as we accelerate digital adoption and unlock the value of the Internet for children and youth, putting them on a growth path and equipping them with critical training and skills to succeed in the economy” India’s growing digital economy,” Gupta said.
