Union Minister for Roads, Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday reviewed the progress of National Highways projects in Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland.

“The review is part of the three-day review program of National Highways projects in the North Eastern region and Sikkim,” the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways said in a press release.

During the review, discussions related to issues related to land, progress of ongoing projects, proposed projects, use of new technology, disputes & arbitration and possible financial intervention were discussed extensively.

The minister also reviewed the delayed projects in the 4 regions to understand the reasons for the delay, and issued specific instructions on how to get them.

Gadkari directed all officials to complete the projects as soon as possible. “Coordination and cooperation between central and regional agencies is important for the development of high-quality transport infrastructure in the North Eastern Region.”

The union’s road minister said on Tuesday that his goal is to build 60 kilometers of highways per day. “We are building 40 kilometers of highways a day, our goal is to build 60 kilometers of roads a day,” he said.

In 2021-22, the pace of construction of National Highways (NH) in the country touched a record of 37 kilometers per day, but it has come down to 28.64 kilometers per day due to disruptions due to calamity and longer than normal winds in some parts. the country.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and National Highways and Infrastructure Development Ltd (NHIDCL) are primarily responsible for the construction of national highways and public roads in the country.

The official target for highway construction has been kept at 12,000 kilometers for the current financial year. The ministry has constructed 10,237 kilometers in 2019-20, 13,327 kilometers in 2020-21, and 10,457 kilometers in 2021-22.
