Eastpoint, Mich. – Eastpoint Police released new footage of a road rage incident that ended in a shootout to Local 4.

The release comes as the victim’s family staged a protest on Tuesday condemning the police investigation.

“We want the criminal investigation reopened and charges brought,” Ty Hale’s mother, Tina Agents, said.

Stryker, Eastpointe, was shot and killed by Ty Hale, 18, at the intersection of David Avenues just before 8pm on September 30. Hale is a father of two — a boy and a girl.

Police said Hale and the driver of the truck got into an argument and the driver shot Hale in self-defense. The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office decided not to charge the driver.

Hale’s family accuses police of slow investigation. “It seems to me that evidence is being withheld for some reason,” the agents said. “It doesn’t make sense and doesn’t add up.”

Eastpointe police are defending their investigation, and Local 4 runs through newly released security footage showing where the road rage started on 8 Mile Road.

Despite it being dark, video shows Hale, who was riding a minibike without lights, slam into the passenger side of the truck before taking off in the other direction, detectives said. Police said the passenger in the truck called 911 and was on the phone with them when the incident happened.

The video then shows the truck driver turning into the East Point neighborhood. Moments later, the video shows Hale circle back and follow the truck into the neighborhood. A doorbell camera on a nearby street captured the fatal shooting. The passenger was on the phone calling 911 when the driver opened fire, police said.

The police said there was no evidence to disprove the driver’s claim of self-defense and hence the case could not be reopened.

Detectives told Local 4 they are willing to reopen the case if new evidence comes to light.
