Guwahati: The CID of Assam police has arrested a suspended police officer and three doctors of a government-run hospital in Darrang district in connection with the death of a 13-year-old girl in Dhekiajuli.
Rupam Phukan, suspended as Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Darrang district, was arrested on Tuesday for ‘improperly handling’ the case of the unusual death of a minor girl.
The CID on Monday arrested three doctors from the government hospital who were accused of giving false information related to the death of a little girl. The arrested doctors are Anupam Sarma, Ajanta Bordoloi, and Arun Das.

Assam Police Rajib Saikia said the three arrested doctors were produced before the court, which sent them to jail for two days.

“In view of the lapse in investigation at Dhula PS, the Chief Minister of Assam after visiting the victim’s house ordered the case to be transferred to CID, Assam for a thorough and detailed investigation.

He said that during the investigation, the CID took out the body, then they did a second examination, and they consulted a panel of medical experts, and they did DNA tests on the main suspect. similar to the fluids on the victim’s clothing.
“Accordingly, a detailed charge sheet was filed on September 25 against the main accused Krishna Kamal Baruah, who is currently in judicial custody,” Saikia added.
