Melrose police have arrested a man in connection with a double shooting in town Sunday evening that left two people injured.

Christopher Corcoran, 44, of Melrose, was arrested Monday without incident in Saugus around 2 p.m. He was charged with two counts of armed assault with intent to murder, two counts of assault with a firearm, battery and possession of a firearm without a license, according to a statement from the Melrose Police Department.

Corcoran will be arraigned today in Malden District Court.

The shooting happened in the area of ​​44 Waverly Place off West Wyoming Drive on Nov. 6 around 7:30 p.m., police said. Police officers who arrived at the scene found two men with gunshot wounds to the lower extremities. Police administered proper medical care to the two men until paramedics arrived to take them to a local hospital for treatment. Both have now left the hospital.

According to a preliminary investigation into the shooting, police believe the shooting was sparked by a verbal dispute between Korokan and the two men. Investigation revealed that both the parties knew each other and this was not a random incident.
