One person was killed and five others were injured in three separate shootings in Boston neighborhoods within an hour on Sunday night, police said, prompting authorities to investigate whether the incidents are connected.

Boston police responded to the first shooting in the Mattapan neighborhood at 9:10 p.m. after receiving a radio call of two people who had been shot, according to a news release from the police department.

Officers located two gunshot victims at the scene and transported them to a hospital, where one male was pronounced dead. The second victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police added.

About 30 minutes later, police responded to another shooting in nearby Dorchester at 9:40 p.m. They found an elderly man with multiple gunshot wounds and took him to the hospital, where he is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

At 9:45 p.m., another adult was reported shot in Hyde Park and taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Soon after, two additional victims of the same shooting drove themselves to the hospital, police said.

Boston Police Commissioner Michael Cox lamented Sunday’s shooting, saying, “It’s been a terrible evening in general.”

“To have six people in one hour, period, in multiple locations across the city is a terrible thing, no matter what era, whether it’s the worst crime or one of the best in our history.” Cox said at a news conference Sunday night. “The only thing more troubling is that our phones aren’t ringing off the hook from people telling us what happened or what they saw or heard.”

No arrests have been made in Sunday’s shooting.
