Assam Police have arrested a total of six youths for allegedly gang-raping a 13-year-old girl in Karimganj district. According to reports, the incident took place within the limits of Ramkrishna Nagar police station in South Assam.
The officer-in-charge of the Ramkrishna Nagar police station informed that they have registered a complaint under the Child Protection Act and the Sexual Offenses Act. Based on the complaint, we have registered a case under the POCSO Act and arrested six accused youths on Tuesday,” said the officer-in-charge of Ramkrishna Nagar police station, Nilovjyoti Nath. The arrested boys were produced before the court.
Speaking further, Nilovjyoti Nath said that the victim as well as the accused, aged between 13 and 15 years belonged to the families of tea plantation workers in Ramkrishna Nagar area. “We brought the accused before the court and sent them to the observation room, because all of them are young and below the age of 18, and the investigation is going on,” he added.
The police also seized the cell phone of one of the accused, as proof of his crime, as he recorded the entire crime and shared it with other people. More details are awaited
