SILCHAR: A young man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly killing him in Assam’s Cachar district.
According to reports, this tragic incident took place in Bihara area, which is about 22 KM from Silchar town on Sunday morning, when Sakul Islam Barbhuiya got into a violent fight with his mother Ajima Begum. Then he killed him with a sharp weapon.
Two members of the family, Monowar Hussain and Ruksana Begum, who tried to save Ajima from Sakul, were also injured in the accident. While Monowar suffered a broken arm, Ruksana sustained injuries on her head.
After the incident, Sakul tried to escape from the scene but was caught by the locals who informed the police. A police team from Bihara and Katigorah reached the spot and arrested Sakul. Later, Ajima’s body was sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem.
Meanwhile, Ajima’s son Najrul Islam Barbhuiya, who was returning home after receiving the news of his mother’s death, was seriously injured in a car accident. Najrul, who was on both legs, met with an accident in Malua, Badarpur after which locals sent him to a hospital for treatment.
Residents expressed their grief over Ajima’s death and demanded that Sakul be punished severely for committing the heinous crime.
In September this year, one Tridip Debroy strangled his mother Jayashree Debroy to death in Hailakandi district. In September 2021, ailing Sumati Deb killed her son Amarjit Deb in Gossaipur, Udharbond of Cachar district.
