Nine people were shot outside a Philadelphia bar Saturday night, police said.

Multiple gunmen drove up in a black vehicle near East Allegheny and Kensington avenues in the city’s Kensington section and opened fire on a crowd of people standing on the sidewalk around 10:45 p.m., police told WPVI.

The gunmen fired about 40 shots before fleeing the scene, police said.

Nine adults were taken to area hospitals with gunshot wounds. Police informed that the condition of two persons is critical and the condition of seven persons is satisfactory.

It wasn’t immediately clear what happened before the shooting, but Philadelphia Police Department First Deputy Commissioner John Stanford said it may have been targeted.

“At this point, these individuals may have seen someone they wanted to shoot, got out of the vehicle and started firing at the group of individuals present. “We don’t have much more than that in terms of motivation,” Stanford said.

The shooters gathered in large numbers early Sunday morning.

“We are a little embarrassed [criminals] It doesn’t matter in this city. They don’t care how many police officers are here. “Some of them don’t care how many people are here,” Stanford said. “We continue to do what we need to do to take these individuals into custody.”
