EVESHAM TWP., NJ (WPVI) — A police chase from Philadelphia to South Jersey Wednesday night may be connected to a mass shooting last weekend that injured nine people.

The manhunt began around 9:30 p.m. when highway patrol officers spotted a vehicle at Frankford and Allegheny avenues matching the description of the Honda used in two recent shootings that left 9 people shot outside a Kensington bar last Saturday night.

A police helicopter was soon in the air following the vehicle from Kensington to I-95 over the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge into New Jersey.

New Jersey police departments were notified.

The driver pulled into the Bradley Funeral Home parking lot near Evesham Road and Route 73 in the Marlton section of Evesham Township.

The 26-year-old male driver got out of the vehicle and ran into a wooded area.

Evesham Town Police managed to take him into custody within minutes.

At first, police began searching the area thinking there might be a second person in the car, but authorities now believe there is only one suspect.

Sources tell ActionNews that the vehicle involved in the chase may be connected to last weekend’s mass shooting in the Kensington section of Philadelphia.

Investigators said it happened near the intersection of Kensington and Allegheny avenues around 10:45 p.m. Saturday.

Police said multiple shooters exited a black vehicle and fired at least 40 rounds, striking nine people.

Eight men and one woman aged between 23 and 40 were killed.

Police have released images of the dark-colored 2003-07 Honda Accord sedan they say was used in the shooting.

Philadelphia police say the vehicle was used in a Nov. 5 shooting in Kensington that injured nine people and another Oct. 7 shooting.

Police believe the same vehicle was used in an Oct. 7 shooting that left one person injured in the 3100 block of Kensington Avenue.

According to investigators, the vehicle wanted in the mass shooting had blue, aftermarket headlights and tinted windows. Police say it matches the chase vehicle.

“Some specific descriptions of the vehicle – it was a Honda Accord, a heavy-duty dark color, this vehicle (involved in the chase) had, and the vehicle used in this shooting had blue aftermarket headlights. This vehicle also had blue aftermarket headlights,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

The vehicle was taken to the Philadelphia Police Garage for further testing.

“I don’t believe it was stolen on (Wednesday) night, and that will be part of our investigation to find out who the car belongs to and we will be talking to the owners of the car or anyone associated with this car,” Small said.

No injuries were reported.

Anyone with information is asked to call Philadelphia police at 215-686-TIPS or call 911.
