The entire University of Virginia (UVA) is on lockdown. All classes were canceled Monday morning as police search for a student connected to last night’s shooting. UVA President Jim Ryan confirmed that three people were killed and two others were injured in the Sunday evening shooting.

What happened on Sunday night?

Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. was the prime suspect, and the president identified him as the shooter. Police are looking for him. Students and staff have been warned to seek shelter. There were reports of shots fired on campus on Sunday night. The university management took to Twitter at 10:42 pm to warn of an “active attacker” with a gun. According to the tweet, there was a shooting on Culbreth Road and the suspect is still at large. The suspect is armed and hostile. He also asked the university community to take shelter until the assailant is apprehended.

During a Fourth of July parade in suburban Chicago, a gunman perched on a rooftop opened fire on flag-waving families and children on bikes. At least six people were killed and more than 36 injured.

He later added in another tweet that he was saddened by the loss of three lives in the firing. He said two people have been admitted to hospital and hope for a speedy recovery.

The UVA Police Department also posted an online notice that they were looking for an armed and dangerous suspect. On Monday, only necessary officers were called to duty to ensure no one was injured in the shooting. A student living in a dorm room near Culbreth Road said he heard six gunshots Sunday night, according to media reports.
