A Toronto man has been arrested in connection with a shooting at a Mississauga nightclub in June.
Peel police said in a news release that they were called to the club near Eglinton Avenue and Creditview Road around 3 a.m. on June 5 for reports of a shooting following a “dispute” between multiple people. Police say no one was injured in the incident.
A 29-year-old man from Toronto was arrested Sunday with the help of Peterborough police, police said. According to the police, a warrant was issued for the arrest of the accused earlier.
He is charged with five counts of possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm and reckless discharge of a firearm.
Police say he was arraigned at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton on bail.
The arrest comes nearly a month after the nightclub was announced to be temporarily closed due to new conditions imposed by the City of Mississauga on its business license. Before that, the city suspended its business license for two weeks, citing ongoing safety concerns.
In a September news release, the club condemned the acts of violence and said it had updated security procedures, increased staff and added more cameras to the site.
At the time, “zero firearms or any threatening incidents” were taking place inside the venue, and the shooting took place in the plaza where it is located.
Peel Regional Police said they have responded to more than two dozen calls since January 2021, including five shootings. The most recent occurred on September 4, leaving a 20-year-old man with serious injuries.
In August, police issued a public safety alert warning patrons of the “high risk” of going to the establishment.
