Silchar/Dibrugarh: Three people suspected to have Maoist links have been arrested from different parts of Assam, police said on Monday.
One of the people arrested in Cachar district was allegedly associated with Maoist leader Arun Kumar Bhattacharjee, known by the nom de guerre ‘Kanchan Da’, they said.
The other two persons were arrested by the army from Dibrugarh, they added.
Cachar Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta told PTI that one Dharitri Sharma was arrested on Saturday night.
“A team from the Guwahati Police Crime Branch came and arrested him. Sharma was taken away the same night,” he said.
Mahatta said that the arrest was based on information received after the arrest of ‘Kanchan Da’.
“The specific allegations against Sharmarke are being investigated,” the official added.

‘Kanchan Da’, a member of the Central Committee of CPI (Maoist), was arrested in Cachar in March. He was tasked to form a state-level committee of the banned outfit in Assam and create a ‘red road’ from the neighboring country to other left-wing extremism states like Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. according to the police.
The other two persons were arrested by the forces from Dibrugarh on Sunday, Additional Superintendent of Police Bitul Chetia said.
“The army has arrested the two men who are suspected of having links with Maoists. Investigation is on,” he said.
One .22 caliber pistol, one magazine and four rounds of live ammunition, the officer said.
