Karimganj (Assam) [India]November 9, 2016 (HOL) — The police in Assam arrested six young men, who were accused of gang-raping a 13-year-old girl in Karimganj district.
According to reports, the incident took place within the limits of Ramkrishna Nagar police station in South Assam.
The officer-in-charge of the Ramkrishna Nagar police station informed that they have registered a complaint under the Child Protection Act and the Sexual Offenses Act.
“The incident took place five to six days ago and the victim’s family members complained on November 7. Based on the complaint, we registered a case under the POCSO Act and arrested the accused six youths on Tuesday,” the officer – In-charge of Ramkrishna Nagar police station, Nilovjyoti Nath said the arrested boys have been produced before the court.
Speaking further, Nilovjyoti Nath said that the victim as well as the accused, aged between 13 and 15 years belonged to the families of tea plantation workers in Ramkrishna Nagar area.
“We brought the accused before the court and sent them to the observation room, because all of them are young and below the age of 18, and the investigation is going on,” he added.
The police also seized the cell phone of one of the accused, as proof of his crime, as he recorded the entire crime and shared it with other people.
