Police arrest suspect in Farmington shooting

Sources confirmed to FOX 2’s Jessica Dupnak that U.S. Marshals on Friday captured a male suspect after shooting a man near his home last week. The victim had earlier called police about slashing his tires before calling back minutes later to report being shot.

A search by the Oakland County jail confirmed the suspect as Matthew Mikel Jones, who is charged with assault with intent to murder and other weapons offenses.

Jones was arrested last week for his involvement in a shooting at a home on Slocum Drive on Nov. 1.

The victim called 911 to complain that his truck’s tires had been slashed, police said. Minutes later, he called the police again, saying he had been shot.

Responding officers found the man on the ground near his pickup truck. He was taken to a hospital and was last reported in critical condition. The deputy director of public safety told FOX 2 the victim went into surgery hours after police were called.

“When we got there, we found a gentleman lying on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds,” said Deputy Director Bob Houhanisin. “We are now collecting footage, putting together a timeline and establishing a suspect and a motive.”

Houhanisin said an earlier call about slashed tires indicated the shooting was targeted.

However, the police could not identify why the victim was attacked while helping.

“We definitely think it was a targeted attack,” Houhanisin said. “We have no concerns about civilians. We don’t believe anyone else is in danger.”
