Chelsea youngster Lewis Hall claimed in an interview with the club after the match that he needs to improve his finishing.
The 18-year-old positioned himself for two of the Blues’ best chances, though Stefan Ortega denied them on both occasions.
The Blues lost 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium, making it three defeats in four games in all competitions.
Two quick-fire second-half goals from Riyad Mahrez and Julian Alvarez put the game beyond doubt early in the second half and the Blues held on for the first 45.
There were even positives to take from the evening until then. Youngster Hall excelled and Mark Cucurella looked like the player Chelsea paid all that money for.
The hall finish is claimed to be excellent
Hall has now claimed that if his finish last night had gone a little better the day would have been even better for him and the club.
He said: “I’m really happy to be in positions to score, I just need to work on that last bit. I know I can do better.
“You don’t really have time to think about it. When you get the chance, you have to try your best to move it, and I couldn’t do that. Hopefully I can next time. “
With a performance like last night, Hall is sure to be considered again in the future to make a more permanent step up to first team level.
With Ben Chilwell’s injury likely to sideline him for a few months, Cucurella could use some competition and may have found that in the young Englishman.
