Suspect arrested after shooting at officers in Scarborough, Toronto | Media Pyro

Toronto police say they have arrested a man who ‘actively fired’ at officers in Scarborough on Tuesday evening.

Detective Ted Leomanis said plainclothes officers were investigating a home on Schenley Road at Kennedy Road and Eglinton Avenue East around 8:30 p.m.

Sources told Global News officers were initially searching the residence.

“They identified the suspect they were looking for and attempted to arrest this individual,” Leomanis said. “The suspect began firing a gun at the police officers.”

After becoming suspicious, he barricaded himself inside the home, Leomanis said. Leomanis added that he was the only one inside the house at the time of the incident.

Toronto Police’s Emergency Task Force arrived at the home to help contain the home and negotiate with the suspect.

A few hours later, the suspect turned himself in to police and was arrested, Liumanis said.

No injuries were reported.

The officers did not fire, Liumanis added.

The public has been advised to stay away from the area.

“Shenley Road residents are asked to take shelter in their basements,” police said in a follow-up tweet.

There is no threat to public safety.
