BARPETA: The Assam Police have arrested at least five people, including a college principal, in connection with the scholarship scam.
According to the police, the principal and staff of several colleges in Barpeta district of Assam are involved in the scholarship scam.
Assam police have arrested the Principal of Barpeta Bongaigaon (BB) College – Manik Ali.
Besides, BB College junior assistant Abul Bashar and Baniyarapara college junior assistants – Sajidul Islam, Khabiruddin and Salim Malik were also arrested.
Earlier on November 2, Assam police arrested two persons named Jeherul Islam and Habibur Rahman for allegedly depositing money in the name of Ishan Uday Scholarship.
A multi-crore fraud was busted by the police in Barpeta and Bongaigaon districts of Assam recently.
It is to be noted that a fraud has taken place in several colleges in Barpeta and Bongaigaon districts of Assam, where it is said that a large sum of rupees was taken in the name of Ishan Uday scholarship.
Ishan Uday scholarship is given by the union government to meritorious students from minority communities.
