Oxford, Mich. – as the one-year anniversary of Maraka Oxford High School shooting Approaches Survivor Zoe Toure, 18, launched an initiative to unite victims of school-based gun violence.

The initiative’s first project is set to focus on survivors Rob Elementary School Shot in Uvalde, Texas.

After attending a gun violence rally in Austin, Texas, Toure hugs survivors. The program collaborates with mental health professionals, educators, advocates, and parents to create long-term relationships that survivors can rely on.

The Uvalde shooting comes six months after the Oxford High School shooting. Oxford Survivors find themselves reliving the experience again and again.

“You know the feeling we all had when I was with my friends, I remember jumping out the window,” Toure said. “I remember all the different friends I was with and all the things we were thinking about at the time — losing your friends.”

Touré, along with more than 20 other survivors, parents, and teachers, are traveling to Uvalde to bring the community whatever comforts them in their time of need.

The Oxford community is bringing therapy dogs, games, crafts, food and blankets they’ve made over the past few months to bring comfort to Robb Elementary students and families.

“Even though it’s just a blanket, it’s not just a blanket for our kids, we want them to know . . . People understand what they’re going through,” said Oxford High School teacher Nicole Barnett. “If we can’t hug you, we can wrap this blanket around you.”

The event took place on November 19 at the Sergeant DeLeon Civic Center in Uwald, Texas. Donations are accepted for this event and the event Here. For the GoFundMe link, Click here.
