As Virat Kohl’s unbeaten streak won the hearts of cricket lovers on Sunday night, the raucous crowd that cheered the match also showered praise on the legendary player.

Kohli missed out on a half-century by a whisker while remaining unbeaten on 49 as India set a target of 238 for South Africa.

India won this match by 16 runs and took three T20 matches by winning the first two matches.

The crowd of around 39,000 at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) stadium here had the loudest cheer reserved for the former captain of the Indian team.

Appreciating the massive support, Kohli took to Twitter to thank the crowd.

“Great game

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who was among those who attended the match, shared the tweet and wrote: “Thank you @imVkohli.” Kohli’s fans, who ignored the wet conditions and missed the Durga Puja festivities on Sunday to watch their favorite cricketer in action, also responded with similar love on the micro-blogging site.

Cricket star and journalist Bidisha Singha wrote: “Thanks Champ! What a selfless knock…” Virat Kohli gave Surya Kumar Yadav (61 off 22 balls) perfect support and became the first Indian to score 11,000 T20 runs in his 49th over.

He also gave top scorer Dinesh Karthik. Karthik hit 17 off 7 balls.

Another Kohli fan Sasanka Chakraborty tweeted: “Thank you for the wave today @imVkohli.” He shared a video of Kohli waving to the stands after his practice just before the start of the match.

Kohli also posed for pictures with the fans during the practice net on the field on the night of the match, earning praise from the fans.
