“This video here is horrible and has made me feel very paranoid about my privacy. If I can’t have privacy in my own hotel room, where can I expect any personal space at all?”

India’s star player Virat Kohli on Monday expressed his shock at the “appalling” video of his Perth hotel room that surfaced on social media, saying he was disappointed by the “bigotry and absolute invasion of privacy”.

“I understand that fans are very happy and excited to see their favorite players and excited to meet them and I’ve always appreciated that. But this video here is horrible and it made me feel very paranoid about my privacy. If I don’t can have privacy in my own hotel room, so where can I expect any personal space at all??” Virat wrote about this in his Instagram account.

He also shared the video, which was shared on Twitter, Instagram and other social media platforms, and said he “doesn’t agree with this kind of bigotry”.

The posted video purportedly shows Virat’s room with shoes, suitcases, renderings of a washroom, some personal items.

At one point in the video, titled “King Kohli’s Hotel Room,” the man who is apparently filming the video opens a closet where the viewer sees an iron box. Virat said, “I do NOT agree with this kind of bigotry and absolute invasion of privacy. Please respect people’s privacy and don’t treat them as an entertainment commodity.”

Fans and celebrities started slamming the abuser and posted on Virat’s wall in the comments section to express their disgust.

Australian opener David Warner commented, tagging the hotel: “It’s ridiculous, absolutely unacceptable. It was @crownperth.”

“Whoever is responsible for this mistake should be ashamed. A man who is devoted to his country and spends as much time as possible in the crowd should spend at least a little quiet time in his own hotel room. This type of fanaticism is sick and should not be appreciated anywhere,” the fan commented.

“This is absolutely wrong. We have to respect everyone’s privacy, even if that person is our favorite player. We love him, but we also have to respect his privacy,” another fan commented. “Wow why would anyone do this and how did the hotel staff even allow this…really uncivilised behaviour,” added another fan.

Another fan commented: “What the hell! At least give this guy some space.

Notably, Virat is having a great ICC T20 World Cup so far. The batsman scored 156 runs in three matches with two half-centuries, including his classic match-winning 82* against Pakistan. At the moment, he is the third leading scorer of the tournament.

He also completed 1,000 runs in the ICC T20 World Cup on Sunday, becoming only the second player to do so.

However, he did not have a great performance against South Africa as he managed to score only 12 runs and missed a crucial catch from batsman Aiden Markram. He will next face Bangladesh on November 2.
