A day after announcing she was terminated as an employee by the City of Brampton, Ont., former mayoral candidate Nikki Kaur has begun legal action.
A lawsuit filed by Kaur’s lawyers in the city of Brampton, seen by Global News, says she is “preparing to pursue legal action.”
A judicial proceeding requires an organization to maintain certain records related to future legal proceedings.
Kaur resigned from her position as director in the city’s planning, housing and economic development department to run against Patrick Brown in Monday’s municipal election.

Brampton mayoral candidate Nikki Kaur has ‘retired’ as a city employee
In an email sent to Brampton councilors Tuesday, interim chief executive Paul Morrison said Kaur “doesn’t work for the city.”
On Tuesday, Kaur said she has retained legal counsel.
“Ms. Kaur’s termination is the culmination of a long-running conspiracy among senior city officials to silence her persistent efforts to expose wrongdoing and possible corruption in city administration. ,” the letter said.
“This allegation includes his cancellation in 2021 and his subsequent re-election, based on his new mayor’s campaign,” he said.
2021 tells the story of Kaur’s brief ouster after sending emails and allegations of wrongdoing at city hall under former chief executive David Barrick.
The city of Brampton did not respond to a request for comment. On Tuesday, city officials said they would not comment on personnel matters.

Kaur’s lawyers have ordered Brampton to withhold documents and city communications tools from several city hall officials, including some from Mayor Patrick Brown’s office.
“To that end, the City must send this notice to all employees and instruct them to preserve all of the above documents,” the letter said.
In her statement on Tuesday, Kaur said “Patrick Brown has once again tried to silence me over allegations of wrongdoing and mismanagement at City Hall.”
In response to questions about the statement, Gary Collins, Brown’s communications director, told Global News that the mayor “doesn’t get involved in these issues.”
On Wednesday, after sending a letter to the city, Collins said Brown “will not comment on this matter.”
Unofficial findings from the City of Brampton show Brown won Monday’s election with an increased majority.
He won 59.65 percent of the vote compared to 25.55 percent for Kaur.
