Guwahati: On Wednesday, a full-grown wild elephant was found dead near Peripur area of Gossaigaon in Kokrajhar.
According to reports, the preliminary investigation revealed that the elephant died of electrocution.
The elephant came across a live wire protruding from a pole.
The forest department is investigating the matter.

It may be noted that elephants tend to “invade” human settlements in search of food.
Whenever an elephant pays an uninvited visit, an unwanted situation tends to occur in the private area.
Often the visit results in the death of elephants or humans. In recent times, the death of elephants from electrocution has been a major concern as many farmers have built electric cables to protect their crops from elephants.

Although the purpose of these live wires is just to chase away the jumbos, they often end up killing themselves.
Although the topic has been of great concern, no practical solution has emerged over the years.
