Election Day shooting in New Rochelle, 1 seriously injured | Media Pyro

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (November 8, 2022) – A man was shot in the leg and critically injured in front of the Bracy Apartments at 345 Main Street, around the corner from a polling place on Election Day, with multiple gunshot wounds.

The shooting happened after 1 pm.

Several witnesses described hearing anywhere from four to six multiple gunshots. A man in front of 345 Main Street engaged in a conversation with someone or something in a black car. As the man backed away from the car, someone inside the car fired multiple shots, hitting the victim once in the leg.

Police are discussing the possibility that today’s shooting may be related to the Oct. 25 shooting death of James Caldwell Jr., who performed under the name Boogie Nation.

NRPD has yet to release a statement on what is an active investigation. The forensics department arrived at the scene just before 2pm and bloodstains could be seen on the street and grass near the footpath.

New Rochelle Police closed Main Street between Franklin Avenue and Echo Avenue and Harrison Street between Main Street and NRFD Firehouse #1, the polling place for today’s election.

NRPD detectives are reviewing CCTV video.

The shooting happened across from Monroe College. Two senior officers and a school security officer came to the victim’s aid. According to school officials, the victim was hit on the inside of his right thigh and was bleeding profusely as blood was oozing from the gunshot wound, possibly the femur. The security guard applied a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.

The victim was transported to an area hospital by EMS.

The new Rochelle Fire Department Firehouse #1 at 45 Harrison Street is a polling place. Poll workers heard the dispatcher dispatch a GSW (gunshot wound) to 345 Main Street, but voters cast their ballots undisturbed.

Police Description: On November 8, 2022 at 1:12 pm New Rochelle Police received a call of shots fired in front of 345 Main Street. Responding officers found a victim with multiple gunshot wounds on the public sidewalk in front of 345 Main Street. Officers administered first aid and New Rochelle Fire and EMS personnel arrived and continued life-saving measures.

The victim, a 22-year-old male from Mount Vernon, NY, was taken to a local hospital for treatment, where he is listed in stable condition. His name has not been released yet.

New Rochelle detectives believe the victim was the shooter’s target.
