A Lake County judge on Wednesday revoked the anticipatory bond of an East Chicago man after he was later charged with shooting his estranged wife on a highway.

She was injured in her left leg.

Andres Perez, 43, was charged Oct. 24 with three counts of attempted murder, stalking, battery and criminal negligence.

At the time, he was out on bond and charged in July in an earlier attempted-murder case for shooting the woman’s relative in the arm after the man slashed her tires, the indictment alleges.

In court documents, the woman and her relatives said they were abusing their relationship. Records show Perez faces domestic battery charges against the Porter County woman and violation of a no-contact order.

“He was going to kill his wife,” said Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Veronica Gonzalez.

“These are allegations,” said attorney Kenneth Ellwood, who is representing Perez in the July shooting. Attorney Robert Varga is representing Perez in the October case.

Ellwood asked for bond in the July case to be kept, arguing that allegations that Perez shot his wife on the road were “absolutely baseless.”

“These are not allegations,” Gonzalez replied. “She was shot in the leg.”

Ellwood said no weapons were recovered from the highway shooting.

“She miraculously didn’t get shot,” Gonzalez said.

Judge Samuel Cappas revoked Perez’s bond in the July case — meaning he will remain in jail. His bond in the October case remains at $250,000 or $25,000 cash.

His next hearing is on January 4.

Court documents show that Perez’s no-contact order prohibits him from calling or seeing the woman or possessing a gun.

Perez, who was at a club in Highland with two friends, called her on Oct. 23, his wife told state troopers. She told him she was there and he showed up at the club to confront her, documents allege.

The woman and her friends left before heading east on I-80/94 to White Castle on Kline Avenue. Perez tails them in a GMC Yukon before shooting the woman in the passenger side.

Police arrived at the scene where the women stopped on I-80/94, on the southbound Indiana 49 ramp, near Charge State Chesterton. She was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
