Increased dengue cases have forced the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Assembly of Assam to close all educational institutions in the Diphu hill till November 12.

According to the National Health Mission (NHM) officials, the State has reported 551 cases of dengue since November 1. Of these, 478 cases were found in Karbi Anglong district with most of the cases admitted to the district headquarters in Diphu.

Three people have died of the disease – two in October and one in November – in the state so far.

A statement issued by the general secretary of the Karbi Anglong local council said that all educational institutions, including non-formal preparatory schools (Anganwadi) in Diphu district board will remain closed till November 12 “to prevent the spread of diseaseā€.

MS Lakshmi Priya, Director of Operations, NHM, Assam and officials of the Integrated Disease Program and Vector Borne Disease Control Program visited Diphu to monitor the situation and provide all necessary support to the district team to control the outbreak. .

“The government has developed a two-pronged strategy targeting the community and health authorities. Health teams have set up patrols across the city,” said Ms. Priya.

Manipur and Mizoram have also battled dengue which has killed at least five people in these two states since October. Both countries have registered more than 400 cases so far.
