Colorado Springs, Colo. (KKTV) – The 4th Judicial District Attorney’s Office released a report Thursday stating that a fatal shooting involving Colorado Springs police last year was justified.
On October 28, 2021, I-25 and S. The shooting happened near Vanguard School near Nevada Avenue. S. The incident began with reports of shots fired near Nevada and Brookside. Vanguard placed the school on lockout status before the suspect was on school property. Officers reportedly first made contact with the suspect at Hunter Avenue and South Corona Avenue. During the first contact, the suspect pointed a gun at officers and at least one officer fired at the suspect, police told 11 News the day of the shooting.
After the police first opened fire, the accused fled. S. The suspect was contacted again in the 1700 block of Wausachs. The suspect again pointed the gun at the officers and the officers returned fire, police said. The accused, Ahmed Akeem Abdul Muhammad, died.
According to the DA’s report released Thursday, “Mr. Muhammad had a reasonable belief that multiple police officers, including himself, posed an actual imminent danger to the adults and/or children and civilians who might be in the vehicles. Houses and school in the vicinity.” The use of lethal force is justified, the report adds.
