Court acquits Assam senior officer GP Singh in Sam Stafford’s death case | Media Pyro

Guwahati: A local court in Guwahati acquitted Assam Special DGP (Law and order) GP Singh in the Sam Stafford murder case.

Kamrup (Metro) The High Court of Judicature (CJM) on Saturday acquitted a senior Assam Police officer without evidence.

The Assam Police in their investigation report said that there is no evidence to show the involvement of GP Singh in the death of Sam Stafford.

17-year-old Sam Stafford died in police firing in Guwahati’s Hatigaon area during anti-Catholicity (Amendment) (CAA) protests on December 12, 2019.

According to the post-mortem report, he was shot twice, in the chin and in the back by the police.

Sam Stafford returned from a protest against CAA organized by AASU at Latashil in Guwahati.

Sam’s post-mortem report also shows that he suffered blunt force injuries.

According to the police investigation report submitted to the court, Sam was shot in the body, but the shooter has not been identified.

The court ordered the Assam government to pay compensation to the next of kin of Sam Stafford.

The court ordered that compensation be paid under the Victim Compensation Scheme under Section 357A of the Criminal Procedure Code.
