Charges against a teenager allegedly involved in a September shooting at Kennywood Park were dismissed at a preliminary hearing Wednesday afternoon.
Daryl Pearl, 15, of West Mifflin, one of three people injured in the shooting, appeared before District Judge James Hanley on charges of possession of a firearm by a minor, recklessly endangering another person and carrying firearms without a license. Number of aggravated assaults.
According to the judge at Pirl’s hearing, the state did not prove the case, which led to the dismissal of the charges, news partner WPXI reported.
Pearl and two others were shot in the “Lost Kennywood” section of the park on Sept. 24 while riding the Music Express.
The park shooting took place on the opening night of Kennywood’s Phantom Fall Fest, a special season on weekends throughout October.
A dispute between two groups of juveniles resulted in a 39-year-old man and another 15-year-old boy being shot in the leg and Pearl suffering a grazing wound, police said. A gun found near the scene of the shooting was stolen from a vehicle in Columbus, Ohio, a year ago, police said.
The Allegheny County Police Crime Lab identified a gun as one of the weapons used in the shooting.
Police believe the Kennywood shooting is connected to an altercation between teenagers in Homestead and Duquesne, and police have responded to 55 other calls since June 1.
The amusement park instituted new safety protocols following the September shooting.
