ASHBURN, VA. — In their preliminary response to the District of Columbia Attorney General’s upcoming announcement about the organization, Brian Robinson questioned the Washington Commanders’ agent team as having fired shots at his client.

D.C. Attorney General Carl Racine’s office announced earlier Wednesday that he would hold a news conference at 1 p.m. Thursday to “make an important announcement regarding Washington commanders.”

It is currently unknown what Racine will announce. His office, like the Virginia attorney general’s, has been investigating the commanders for more than six months over allegations that the organization engaged in financial irregularities. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia has also opened a criminal investigation into the allegations, sources familiar with the matter confirmed to ESPN last week.

A commander’s spokesperson, In a statement Wednesday nightThe attorney general’s possible announcement was withdrawn, and in doing so referred to Robinson, who was shot twice in the right leg during an attempted robbery while on his way to a D.C. restaurant in August.

“Three months ago, a 23-year-old player on our team was shot multiple times in broad daylight,” the statement began. “Despite violent crime spiraling out of control in D.C., the D.C. Attorney General will hold a press conference today to make “a major announcement” related to the organization, Washington commanders learned on Twitter for the first time.”

Robinson required surgery on his right knee, but he suffered no internal damage and was able to play in a game six weeks later, a feel-good story for the franchise.

His agent Ryan Williams was not aware of Robinson’s inclusion in the statement until it became public.

“Until an hour ago, Commander Brian Robinson handled the situation with great care, sincerity and class.” Williams wrote in a tweet. “I was very grateful for all of that. While I know there are some great men in that building, the person hiding behind this statement is not one of them.”

The commanders did not respond to messages seeking further comment on their statement.

D.C. Metro Police have arrested two suspects in Robinson’s shooting death. As a federal district, the DC Attorney General’s Office is not responsible for prosecuting armed robbery or attempted murder that falls under the jurisdiction of the US Attorney General’s Office.

The Commander’s spokesman’s statement continued, “The Commanders have cooperated fully with the AG’s investigation for nearly a year. As of Monday, the team’s counsel met with the AG, and at that time he did not suggest that he intended to take any action. The action and, in fact, revealed fundamental misunderstandings of the underlying facts. In his final days, Mr. Racine, instead of working hard , based on offbeat legal theories, is more interested in making headlines than making the streets safer for our citizens, including bringing to justice the people who shot one of our players.
