Eau Claire County, Wis. (WEAU) – Bond has been set for two men charged with manslaughter in the Sept. 17 fatal shooting of an Altoona man in Eau Claire.

Michael Purnell, 32, and Xavier Thompson, 34, both of Eau Claire, were taken into custody and each posted a $1,000,000.00 cash bond.

Purnell and Thompson, both of Eau Claire, are charged with 1st-degree intentional homicide, 1st-degree recklessly endangering safety with a dangerous weapon and discharging a firearm from a vehicle, according to online court records. All felonies, in Eau Claire County Circuit Court.

All eight charges were filed as a party to a crime. Purnell was previously charged with fleeing law enforcement in a vehicle last month, also a felony. Purnell was previously arrested on a charge of fleeing from law enforcement and released on a $5,000 cash bond. Manslaughter and other offenses were added to the criminal complaint, according to online court records.

In September, Eau Claire police investigated the death of Christopher Connor, 39, of Altoona, who was found with a gunshot wound at 12:12 a.m. on Sept. 17 near the intersection of Bergen Avenue and Bellevue Avenue. From the Eau Claire Police Department.
