Chickasaw, Ala. (WALA) – The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office and the Chickasaw Police Department are investigating a Thursday night shooting in Chickasaw.

Authorities say the shooting happened on 3rd Avenue and involved a female victim.

The woman was rushed to the hospital, but the authorities later confirmed her death.

According to Chickasaw Police Chief Keith Miller, they received a call about a shooting around 8:45 p.m.

When investigators arrived, they found a woman with multiple gunshot wounds.

Chief Miller says two men came up to the house around the corner and started shooting.

Eyewitnesses say that many people were inside the house but no one was injured.

“The best we can tell from the witnesses right now is that a car with two males pulled up to the residence and fired shots into the residence from the driveway to the door,” Chief Miller said. “We are still at the beginning of the investigation. Now we have a few details. ”

Chief Miller did not say whether the two men who pulled up knew the victim or if the shooting was accidental.

A man at the scene was taken into custody for questioning but has not been identified as a suspect.

Chickasaw Police are the lead agency in the case. The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office is assisting.
