CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga (WTOC) – The Chatham County Police Department insists 22-year-old Leilani Simon is the only suspect in the investigation into her toddler’s death. The mother of three reported her 1-year-old son, Quinton Simon, missing on October 5.

Our investigative team spoke about Leilani’s criminal history and drug use last week. Now, court documents are taking a closer look at the details behind his 2021 felony arrest.

In November, police in Dunn, North Carolina arrested him and charged him with felony theft after he robbed his employer. These court documents show exactly what happened. The arrest warrant shows that a week before she was picked up by Dunn police, on October 26th, Leilani was working at the Loves Truck Stop on I-95 north of Fayetteville. There were records showing that he stole two packs of cigarettes, a bag of popcorn, and a bottle of lemonade. The police arrested him a week later. Under North Carolina law, theft is considered a felony – regardless of the value of the stolen property.

Fast forward to May: A Harnett County judge gave Leilani one year of probation, 48 hours of community service, and ordered her to pay $400 in fines. He was also ordered not to commit a crime for 12 months.

Her son, Quinton, missed less than half of his probation.

Leilani has no criminal record here in Wharekauri County, and at this time, no one has been charged in Quinton’s death or disappearance.
