ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – Suspects in a series of break-ins early Monday morning are wanted after leading deputies on a chase and shooting.

A Robeson County Sheriff’s Office deputy’s vehicle was shot during a car chase after deputies responded to alarm calls at multiple stores in the southern part of the county.

According to the report, deputies were dispatched to the first alarm around 1:39 a.m., followed by alarms at four other locations. Around 3:20 a.m., deputies responded to Hwy 41 S. and Old Stage Rd. located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop.

The driver of the vehicle refused to stop and fired multiple shots at two deputies during the pursuit, RCSO said.

During the pursuit in a residential area on Hwy 41 S., two vehicles were hit by bullets and the chase continued onto I-74, the report said.

I-74 W. While traveling in, the suspect’s vehicle drove recklessly and crashed into other cars on the interstate, RCSO said.

Deputies said the pursuit of the suspect’s vehicle was stopped due to reckless driving and shots fired.

The suspect vehicle is a silver or light-colored Nissan Pathfinder, four-door, manufactured between 2015 and 2019, according to the sheriff’s report. Vehicle displays 30 day tags.

“These suspects are considered armed and dangerous and will be held until they are apprehended,” said Sheriff Bernice Wilkins. “It is very clear that their crimes were premeditated and they had no concern for the motoring public, the residents sleeping in their homes or the deputies as they fired multiple shots at the deputies throughout the chase. With everyone’s safety in mind, it was decided to stop the chase.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Fairmont Police Department are assisting in the investigation.

Anyone with information about the cases is asked to call the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office at 910-671-3170 or 910-671-3100.
