ActiveNav, a leading provider of data privacy and management software, has been recognized in three more of Gartner’s prestigious 2022 Hype Cycles: Hype Cycle for Data Storage and Protection Technologies, Hype Cycle for Data Security and Hype Cycle for Data Management.

WASHINGTON, November 9, 2022 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ — ActiveNav, a leading provider of data privacy protection and management software, has been recognized in three more prestigious Gartner 2022 Hype Cycles: Hype Cycle for Data Storage and Protection Technologies, Hype Cycle for Data Security and Hype Cycle for Data Management. ActiveNav previously announced that it has been included in the Gartner Hype Cycle for Security Operations and the Gartner Hype Cycle for Privacy.

This is the second year that ActiveNav has achieved a major recognition milestone in Garner’s multiple hype cycles – a graphic representation of a common pattern that emerges with each new technology innovation throughout its life cycle, giving end users insight into which technologies are worth investing in.

Gartner identifies ActiveNav as an example vendor for evaluating an organization’s discovery and data management (DDM) needs, which Gartner previously referred to as “file analysis.” According to Gartner reports, DDM solutions (such as ActiveNav) enable organizations to reduce risk, classify important data, optimize storage efficiency, improve the way they manage their data, and reduce costs.

“We are very proud that ActiveNav’s exceptional technologies have earned a place in Gartner’s 2022 Hype Five Cycles,” said ActiveNav’s CEO and founder. Peter Bauman. “Recognition from a respected industry leader like Gartner is important to us because Gartner is very important to the market. Our strong history of innovation and technology leadership continues to bear fruit that benefits our growing list of customers and the market itself.”

Unstructured data, which accounts for 80% of an organization’s data, is a significant and growing challenge for legal, IT, security, risk and data management professionals. The situation is further complicated by the growing variety of regulations and laws in the US and abroad.

“Organizations of all types face tremendous pressure to manage and protect their data,” Baumann added. “Unfortunately, these challenges will likely continue to grow, increasing the need for robust ActiveNav solutions that protect sensitive data at scale and ensure compliance with government laws and regulations.”

New augmentation and automation technologies are changing data management
Gartner report on data management, authored by analysts Donald Feinberg, Philip Russom and Nina Chauvelnotes that “[d]ata management is rapidly changing with new technologies that focus on augmentation and automation.” The report also states that “enterprises need a holistic view of critical technology capabilities” if they are to “succeed with [data & analytics] initiatives”.

The ActiveNav software platform can help a lot. The file analysis tool is specially designed to analyze, clean, classify, migrate and manage unstructured digital information. It is a single, comprehensive platform with a user-friendly interface designed to facilitate the use of the tool by non-technical users to achieve scalable information management.

New security products and policies are needed to reduce risks to data and privacy
Gartner’s data security report, authored by analyst Brian Lowance, notes that as security and risk management leaders “driven by business objectives are challenged to achieve consistent data security in the accelerated evolution of multi-cloud and hybrid IT architectures… new and promising product combinations and security policies” are necessary “to mitigate data security and privacy risks.”

On the security front, DDM tools allow organizations to discover, analyze, index, search, track, and report on sources of both unstructured and structured data. It enhances regulatory compliance, risk management, storage management, and analytics capabilities across organizations. ActiveNav’s rapidly deployable cloud-based solution can achieve these goals by creating data visualization maps that help identify the value and risk of unstructured data, including data owners.

The data storage and protection market is evolving to meet new challenges
Gartner report on data storage and security technologies, authored by an analyst Julia Palmerwarns: “Organizations are reaching a tipping point in uncontrolled storage and licensing costs associated with unmanaged data through the use of on-premise, hybrid and cloud infrastructures and applications.”

ActiveNav offers several ways to address these issues, including mitigating the risk of locating, protecting, deleting and quarantining sensitive data, and identifying access permission issues. This highly scalable tool also enables organizations to optimize storage efficiency, leading to efficient information and better data management. Organizations also save money by improving storage and reducing business risk.

Also recently launched is ActiveNav Teams Collector, the first cloud-based tool on the market that automatically searches Microsoft Teams channel conversations and identifies unstructured data in both conversations and files (Word, Excel, PDF) stored in those channels, which is serious compliance risk. Companies that use this tool can greatly enhance their ability to monitor compliance with rapidly evolving privacy regulations.

Since 2008, businesses, governments and SLEDs (State, Local and Educational Government Agencies) have been using ActiveNav solutions to discover sensitive data, optimize storage and comply with privacy regulations. Ruvilin Gatchalian, Electronic Records Advisor at Black Gold Canada, called ActiveNav “an important tool that will help us in our organization’s journey to identify risk indicators of accumulated unstructured data. It also helps us comply with records and information regulations.”
