Gartner identifies ActiveNav as an example vendor for evaluating an organization’s discovery and data management (DDM) needs, which Gartner previously referred to as “file analysis.” According to Gartner reports, DDM solutions (such as ActiveNav) enable organizations to reduce risk, classify important data, optimize storage efficiency, improve the way they manage their data, and reduce costs.

New augmentation and automation technologies are changing data management
Gartner report on data management, authored by analysts Donald Feinberg, Philip Russom and Nina Chauvelnotes that “[d]ata management is rapidly changing with new technologies that focus on augmentation and automation.” The report also states that “enterprises need a holistic view of critical technology capabilities” if they are to “succeed with [data & analytics] initiatives”.

On the security front, DDM tools allow organizations to discover, analyze, index, search, track, and report on sources of both unstructured and structured data. It enhances regulatory compliance, risk management, storage management, and analytics capabilities across organizations. The data storage and protection market is evolving to meet new challenges
Gartner report on data storage and security technologies, authored by an analyst Julia Palmerwarns: “Organizations are reaching a tipping point in uncontrolled storage and licensing costs associated with unmanaged data through the use of on-premise, hybrid and cloud infrastructures and applications.”
