A shooting at an east Toronto high school left one person dead and a teenager hospitalized, police said.

The shooting took place in front of Woburn Collegiate Institute in Scarborough, police said.

Just before 3:30 p.m., police were called to Ellesmere and Markham roads for reports of a man shot.

“One person, a male, was pronounced dead at the hospital,” police said in a tweet.

“The second victim, a teenage boy, was taken by emergency run to a trauma center.”

Police say the shooter was last seen fleeing westbound. He is described as a man wearing a black jacket and a “Covid mask”.

Woburn Collegiate Institute and neighboring Woburn Junior Public School have been closed, the Toronto District School Board said.
