A Fairbanks man was killed in a shooting Monday morning | Media Pyro

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTTU) – One person is dead after a shooting in Fairbanks Monday morning, according to a press release from Fairbanks Police.

Fairbanks Public Information Officer Teal Soden wrote that police were notified of the shooting near 1600 Washington Drive around 2 a.m. The caller said a man left the home and left a gun on the ground.

Police were en route when 19-year-old Jason Alvarez called 911 to say he had shot someone, the release said. Alvarez was taken to the Fairbanks Correctional Center and charged with first degree murder. The gun was found near the house.

An adult male was found dead from gunshot wounds in a second-floor bedroom of the apartment.

“According to witnesses, the victim and the suspect were hanging out with several other people in the apartment on the night of the shooting,” the statement said.
