Guwahati: While huge sums of rupees have been spent on the construction of footbridges across Guwahati in the hope that they will become a better option for roads, on Tuesday, a 14-year-old boy got stuck in the lift of one of the footbridges in Adabari.

According to reports, the boy was stuck on the bridge for at least half an hour.

To save the boy, the authorities broke down the elevator door.

According to local residents, although the bridge was built with a lot of money, there was no regular maintenance of the cranes and hoists. Most of the time, they remain inactive which makes them useless.

The elevator closed by itself on Tuesday with the boy inside but it is not officially known what caused the decision.

Residents demanded that something be done about this issue, as the boy was seriously injured as a result of lack of maintenance.
