McKelon Bennett, Bruce Davis, Daquan Jenkins
Milwaukee – Three Milwaukee men have been charged in connection with a fatal shooting Tuesday, Nov. 1, at a gas station near 7th and Keefe. A 17-year-old boy was killed. Police used surveillance to identify the men, and because the video was of high quality, they were able to do it quickly. They didn’t post it publicly asking for help. Instead, two parole agents and a police officer confirmed that the three men involved in the shooting should not have had guns in the first place.
The defendants are McKelon Bennett, Bruce Davis and Daquan Jenkins, who face the following criminal charges:
- First-degree negligent homicide (Bennett, Davis, Jenkins)
- Possession of a Firearm by a Felon (Bennett, Davis, Jenkins)
- Bail jumping offense (Bennett)
- Bail Jumping-False (Bennett)
According to the criminal complaint, a witness told police he was with the shooting victim when words were exchanged between them and some people at the gas station. When they returned to their car, a group from the gas station immediately opened fire on them, hitting the victim.

Surveillance showed a red Kia arrive at the gas station and the above-mentioned witness got inside and got into an argument with the five men inside. When all the men exited the gas station, the witness said, he got into his Kia and started driving away. At that point, Jenkins handed the gun to Bruce Davis, who began firing as the Kia pulled away, the complaint said.

The video shows another man in a light blue shirt firing in the same direction at the same time, and McCallon Bennett also started firing in the same direction with a pistol with a drum magazine, the complaint said.

Police found 41 spent 9 mm cartridge casings in the area.
The victim died of three gunshot wounds. The death was ruled a homicide.
All three accused in this case were identified from the video and positively identified by parole agents or police who had previous contact with all three.

Bennett appeared in court on Monday, Nov. 7.
“You’re too young. This is a violent crime. This is a second-degree felony,” said Court Commissioner Grace Flynn.
Bennett’s attorney argued for a lower bail of $10,000 for first-degree negligent homicide.
“He has his 21st birthday in prison. He lives with his mother. He works at his mother’s day care center. He helps her regularly, that’s his job,” his lawyer said.
Commissioner Flynn set bail at $300,000, as he did for Davis and Jenkins, who appeared in court Sunday.
“Mr. Bennett, I see there is an extreme, extreme bail,” Flynn said.
Police are looking for a fourth man for aiding and abetting, according to a criminal complaint.
