CHARLOTTE – A shooting in a residential area near the Catawba River in west Charlotte around 4 p.m. Thursday left one person in life-threatening condition, a medic said.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the area where Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers surrounded a home on Moores Chapel Road near Harbor Drive.

CMPD tweeted Thursday night that SWAT responded to a scene where someone was barricaded inside a home in the area.

Our crew on the ground could hear the officers ordering someone out of the house.

Roads were blocked for motorists and residents since afternoon.

“It’s probably been three hours now to get in,” resident Cody Klein told Channel 9. “It’s kind of hard because my dog is there and he’s alone.”

Klein said the neighborhood is usually peaceful.

“In general, this area seems to be somewhat rural,” Klein said. “(There) doesn’t seem to be a lot of crime in the area.”

Police have not confirmed if the man in the home was armed.

Some neighbors said the man at the center of the investigation has been troubled for some time and that this is not the first time officers have been called to his home.

“They were here two weeks ago because he was flashing a gun around my neighbor and they didn’t do anything about it,” resident Ray Morgan said.

By 10 p.m., police told Channel 9 the standoff was over. Officials did not provide further details.

The shooting victim was taken to Atrium CMC.
