A man was hospitalized after an employee inside a Rohnert Park sandwich shop pulled out a gun and opened fire Sunday evening, authorities said.

Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Deputy Chief Kevin S. Kilgore told reporters at the scene.

The victim, described only as a woman, was rushed to an area hospital. Details about her injuries or her condition were not immediately available.

Kilgore said the suspected shooter was identified as Jade Kuterer, 19, of Santa Rosa, an employee of the Sordo & Co. shop. He said she was arrested after responding to police officers outside the store when she tried to escape.

Kilgore added that only one shot was fired inside the store where there were customers. He also said that a gun was recovered from the spot.

No other injuries were reported.

Police were still interviewing witnesses Sunday night, so information on how or why the shooting happened was not available, Kilgore said.

Sourdough & Co. is located in a strip mall not far from a Safeway grocery store and other eateries.

Employees at Zimmer, a Vietnamese restaurant next door to Sordo & Co., said they did not hear gunshots but saw a woman and her children running into the parking lot.

The woman appeared hysterical, and they took her and her children inside until the police arrived.

Kilgore said investigators do not believe the shooting was a random act, but they are still trying to determine a motive and exactly what happened.
